Somebody get the tissues out. The NBA’s royalty is upset. Blood was boiling yesterday as Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson and Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers bellyached to the media over the recently completed trade which allowed the Cleveland Cavaliers to obtain forward Antawn Jamison. Competitiveness can bring out the worst in people.
McGrady to Knicks a Win-Win For Both

Tracy McGrady and the Houston Rockets parted ways today in a three-team, eight player trade with the Sacramento Kings and New York Knicks. The Rockets received Kevin Martin and Hilton Armstrong from the Kings, as well as Jared Jeffries, Jordan Hill and a conditional draft pick from the Knicks. The Kings received Larry Hughes from the Knicks and Carl Landry and Joey Dorsey from the Rockets. The Knicks ended up with McGrady and Sergio Rodriguez from the Kings.

It was actually the Giants releasing defensive leader Antonio Pierce. The Giants announced that it will not pick up the final year of his contract, worth a hefty $4.75 million.

The Philadelphia 76ers are streaking, cruising to a blowout 119-97 victory Tuesday night over the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Sixers opened the second quarter with 15-0 run and never looked back as they post 43 points in the quarter, ending the first half with a 73-51 lead. Andre Iguodala led the way with 24 points with Elton Brand chipping 21 points in the winning effort.

Randy Couture Wins Battle Of The Aged At UFC 109

Former UFC champion Randy Couture (18-10) put another notch on his belt with a dominating victory over another former UFC Champion Mark Coleman (16-10). The fight featured two of the oldest fighters in the sport, Couture at age 46 and Coleman age 45, both Hall of Famers with the UFC despite their active status. Couture took the victory by rear naked choke submission at 1:09 of the second round.
Hoyas Beat Snow Blizzard, Stun Villanova

Record snow fell on Washington D.C., with more than two feet on the ground before game time. Despite the crazy weather, the show had to go on for Georgetown and Villanova. More the 10,000 people braved the blizzard snow conditions to watch Georgetown handily knock off #2 ranked Villanova by a score of 103-90, bringing to an end Villanova’s 11-game win streak.

Jim Boeheim and his Syracuse Orangemen (22-1) just keep rolling, winning their ninth straight game over Providence by a score of 85-68. Kris Joseph came of the bench to lead Syracuse with 23 points and Arinze Onuaku chipped in a season-high 20 points in the blowout victory. Jamine Patterson dropped in 25 points for the Providence Friars (12-10) in the defeat.
